River of Freedom, a documentary about Wellington’s anti-mandate protest, debuted at the Civic Theatre in Auckland. It features a wide range of voices from the three week long occupation of the Beehive lawn from February to March 2022. The independently funded film paints protesters in a much more favourable light than the government funded Fire and Fury documentary by Stuff.

Social justice is in the eye of the beholder

“Social justice” contrasts with “criminal justice” because the latter doesn’t try to create positive outcomes beyond preventing direct harm. Social justice promotes equity which means equality of outcomes as opposed to the more traditional equality of opportunity. “Extreme social justice is one trait of woke. Many woke people feel even questioning the view warrants condemnation.

Did Hipkins learn the meaning of ‘compulsory’ from the podium of truth?

The PM and Pinnochio agree the covid vaccination was always your own choice. Have you chosen to be robbed if you agree under threat of something worse? Even those that agree with Hipkins’ fine distinctions might still be mad they were forced into that choice. Voters will determine who’s got the bigger team now.

“Blatant” systemic health racism? More like blatant politicking

There’s a spike in rheumatic fever mostly amongst Māori and Pasifika children. Newshub gives Dr from Auckland University airtime to attack right wing policies under the guise of health expertise. A PhD doesn’t give your brand of left wing politics any more validity. Lots of qualified people hold different political views.

NZ Herald links “Threat from Outer Space” to NZ News Essentials – Part 1

New Zealand Media and Entertainment (NZME) writes a feature article on little old NZ News Essentials (NE) and the related Centrist publications. The NZME article was gracious and showed some insight. It was even a fun/funny read. The article also took a number of shots which will be addressed over the next few weeks.

Media advertising hypocrisy

Front-page Luxon attack ad looks like news at first glance. NZ Herald’s double standards exposed. Why wouldn’t they run Family First’s campaign ad? Does the media need to be regulated more, like the cigarette industry, when it comes to political advertising?

A stumbling block to the pessimist is a stepping-stone to the optimist.
