Government likes to announce big projects but have they got game?

This Government is quick to spend money pursuing huge projects. Most of these couldn’t possibly happen for many years. How many could NZ even handle at the same time? Why is such a big deal made of what are usually preliminary scoping exercises?

Te reo everywhere, everyway, for everyone, every day

Te reo organically became an important part of New Zealand culture. Now the government is trying to create a bilingual culture in a language which is not used much in NZ and not at all outside NZ. Does the government have a mandate to downplay English, to force some te reo on everyone?

RMA replacements reminiscent of Three Waters

The Resource Management Act is widely agreed to be a failure, but the Government’s proposed replacement laws have similar problems. They’re along similar lines to Three Waters, removing the power of local councils and adding Māori oversight. National and ACT are opposed while the Greens seek a delay to improve the laws.

Labour MP Michael Wood seems to have failed charm school

Labour MP Michael Wood has a long history of insulting others. Wood claims to be an advocate for the community and social justice, but he certainly isn’t leading by example. The Labour Party and Kiwis deserve better.

National announces climate policy

“Electrify NZ” aims to double the nation’s renewable energy production. They’ll “cut the red tape” by speeding up consents and virtually guaranteeing green infrastructure is consented, provided requisite conditions are met. Greens say National is stealing their ideas.

She’s back… and ready to fight any disinformation except her own

Former PM Ardern will begin a new role as special envoy to PM Hipkins for the Christchurch Call. Is the Call’s stated purpose of tackling violent extremism online a Trojan Horse for censorship? Labour under Ardern has a documented history of censoring political opponents online.

The truth is always the strongest argument.
