Pfizer COVID vaccine available for high-risk infants

A smaller dose of the Pfizer COVID vaccine is approved for high risk infants 6 months or older. Approval is based on a single small US clinical trial and on Pfizer providing safety reports. A Government study shows vaccinated Kiwis suffered more kidney and heart injuries than the unvaccinated.

Three Water$ – A closer look at the finances

Most of the ‘savings’ that come from Three Waters are from debt limits being raised. The Government says the cost to build infrastructure will be half of what councils currently pay. Really? The Government has now put ratepayers on the hook to secure loans to the WSEs. They will set pricing charges, but non residential Māori freehold land is exempt.

Claiming the moral high ground with sacred words

Words like rights, justice, equality, and fairness are often misunderstood so there is not really agreement. Redefining criticism as evil is intimidating, but hollow and divisive. When people in authority resort to broad accusations of prejudice, what does it say about them?

NZ carbon dioxide shortage severe

Greenhouses, meat preservers, and especially smaller beverage producers have been hit hard by NZ’s CO2 shortage. NZ currently cannot produce large quantities of the gas and is importing it from Malaysia, causing huge price increases. This was caused by the closure of Marsden Point oil refinery and the temporary shutdown of the only other CO2 producer.

Convince ’em while they’re young

A counter-misinformation group “Tohatoha” is delivering workshops to schools. The program aims to teach “critical thinking” so young people are better at sorting fact from fiction. The same old problem: Who decides what is disinformation? Tohatoha is left-leaning.

The co-governance experiment

Co-governance arrangements have up until recently been between local iwi and council to manage local resources. The arrangements have expanded rapidly in recent times. Typically, the model generally allows some unelected iwi representation combined with elected representation for the broader public. Controversy usually revolves around preferential treatment, accountability and transparency.
