3 Waters: The Water Services Entities Act becomes law
The Government’s Water Services Entities Act became law on Thursday, December 8th 2022. There was considerable controversy with a now abandoned attempt at entrenchment. It’s the first of three bills that make up the controversial 3 Waters reforms. Labour used their majority to pass the bill. All other parties, including the Māori Party were opposed.

Sport NZ releases guidelines to accommodate transgender athletes
Sport NZ has released new guidelines to increase inclusivity of trans-athletes in local and community sport. These guidelines encourage the removal of urinals and the adoption of preferred pronouns. Women's sports advocates say scientific evidence doesn't support the move.

Voting age declared inconsistent with the Bill of Rights
The Supreme Court declared the current voting age of 18 is inconsistent with the Bill of Rights, which says it should be set at 16. If the Government gets its way, you'll have to be 18 to vote nationally, but only 16 to vote locally. Tinkering with the voting age can be political as younger voters tend to support left leaning governments.
