Labour’s strategy – Identity Politics to the extreme

Labour identifies with Identity Politics. Vaccinated vs unvaccinated, rich vs poor; Māori vs Pākehā; trans vs men and women; young vs old; landlords vs renters; men vs women; rural farmers vs city dwellers, etc. Many say social cohesion is now an election issue.

National releases new policy on firearms

National unveils its new firearms policy, which they say is designed to keep Kiwis safe. Central to the policy is giving police powers to conduct warrantless search and seizures of weapons from known criminals, gang members and their associates. The party also wants to make it cheaper for licensed and lawful firearms users to legally obtain weapons.

Why has the Trans movement become much more prominent?

John Money, a New Zealander, developed the "theory of gender neutrality" which proposes gender identity is shaped by socialisation. Gender dysphoria -discomfort with one's biological sex- is now generally seen as being born in the wrong body, but this is recent and controversial. LGB (Lesbian, Gay, Bi) activism now includes T (Transgender) after they converged in 1969, but the groups have different experiences and identities.

Government announces changes to the Clean Car Discount programme

Changes to the Clean Car Discount programme come into effect 1 July 2023. New EV rebates will drop. More vehicles will be charged high emissions fees and ute taxes will rise dramatically. Critics argue farmers and tradies are unfairly punished by increased fees, while Tesla owners enjoyed the programme’s biggest payouts.

Meka Whaitiri quits Labour, but stays in Parliament

Labour MP Meka Whaitiri announced her resignation from Labour to join Te Pāti Māori. The move looks like it should trigger the waka jumping law booting Whaitiri from Parliament. Why does the Labour Party Speaker say it didn’t? The Speaker won’t let anyone “check his work”. Is he yet another sole source of truth?

The “scientific” parent of The Disinformation Project

The government funded organisation that created The Disinformation Project is equally politically biassed. It was at the centre of controversy calling science racist, making the NZ Royal Society an embarrassment to many scientists overseas. The media publishes its research with little qualification or criticism.

I am trying to follow the science, but it keeps leading me back to the money.
