NZ Herald takes another shot at Chantelle Baker… and misses

The NZ Herald attacks independent news hound Chantelle Baker calling her a conspiracy theorist in an alternate reality. The Herald cites only one specific instance, about Ardern and her vaccine mandates. That backfires as Baker’s position is very reasonable. They rely on The Disinformation Project as an independent source even though TDP are obviously pushing an agenda.

Climate policies in tiny NZ cannot affect the world’s climate.

For every 1 person in NZ, there are about 1,500 people elsewhere. So NZ can have no measurable impact on global CO2. Is there any point being any better than the middle of the pack? Cost of CO2 reduction is high. Will climate action to lead the world benefit the country or is it just political idealism?

Businesses say isolation requirements are a drag, but Government sticks with them

The Government is opting to keep COVID era seven-day isolation requirements in place for at least two more months. Opposition parties and businesses decry the move as out of step with the rest of the world. Experts like Michael Baker, however, applaud the move and see it as a way of now protecting against other respiratory viruses.

For Greens, is calling Swarbrick “crybaby” worse than insulting all heterosexual Caucasian men on earth?

Chlöe Swarbrick called “crybaby” sparks an investigation within the Green Party. But Marama Davidson, as minister, saying “white cis men” are responsible for “violence in the world”, then claiming she was in shock, warrants no investigation. Why is the media not drawing obvious comparisons between the two incidents? Why does Davidson get a pass? Do Greens have their priorities straight?

Labour rebrands Three Waters, but co-governance stays

PM Hipkins has rebranded Three Waters as the Affordable Water reforms. The name suggests savings, but that is deceitful. Iwi still have effective control of the nation’s fresh water through “co-governance”, but the number of entities has been increased from 4 to 10. Expect water service reforms to remain a contentious issue come election time.

Officials supported transgender bullies

Public discussion has been stifled on a law allowing anyone to choose their sex. A concerned women’s group felt it was dangerous for women and also undermined lesbianism and women’s sport. Some local councils tried to block public meetings, but a judge intervened. The controversial law did not attract much attention and passed quietly, but the concerns remain.
